Spring is here and the sun it out! ☀️ Time to break out the dusters and cleaning wipes. As the weather changes, it becomes more important to regularly inspect your fitness equipment. Investing in preventative maintenance from an external expert is a valuable service for your company. But there are ways to supplement maintenance in between services to give your members an unforgettable experience to keep them coming back for more!

Here are some tips to enhance cleanliness and ensure your gym remains a welcoming and safe environment for your patrons:

Treadmill

Daily- clean exterior frame, shrouds, console, ergo bar heart rate grips with approved wipes or mild dawn soap

Weekly- check for unusual noises, level base, heart rate function

Elliptical

Daily- clean shrouds, pedals, work arms, frame, console with approved wipes or mild dawn soap

Weekly- check consistent resistance, unusual noises, level base, heart rate function

Strength

Daily- clean upholstery, frame, surrounding areas, inspect shrouds and cables

Weekly- inspect hardware and frame for signs of wear, loose or damaged parts

Thoroughly cleaning all surfaces of equipment will prevent buildup of sweat, dirt and bacteria. By following these simple, yet impactful tasks, you can help prevent major issues and ensure the safety and satisfaction of gym members.

Learn how high schools can keep weight room equipment clean, safe, and ready for student athletes with simple routines, the right products, and proper floor care.
June 10, 2026
When schools think about maintaining a high school weight room, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the equipment. Benches, racks, machines, dumbbells, plates, and bars all need attention, but the flooring underneath them is just as important. Weight room flooring takes on constant stress every day. Students walk across it between classes. Athletes train on it after school. Coaches move equipment around it. Weights are lifted, set down, and sometimes dropped on it. Over time, the floor becomes one of the hardest-working parts of the entire weight room.

A school weight room is more than a place where students lift weights. It is a shared training space that teaches discipline, accountability, safety, and respect. For high schools, the weight room often serves many different groups throughout the day. PE classes may use it in the morning. Athletic teams may train after school. Coaches may run strength programs for multiple sports. With that much activity, the condition of the room depends on more than the equipment itself. It depends on how students treat the space every time they use it.
